Part 3 of a series. A meditation on queer African history, the legacy of colonization, personal and collective memory, shame and love.
This drawing was inspired by the linoleum tiles in Cameroonian apartments in the early 2000s. The snakes, fish scales, cowry beads and leaves all symbolize memories and dreams I had back home. Snakes have always been part of my mystical imagination since childhood in Cameroon and I used to see them often in my dreams until my late teens. This piece is about abundance, tradition, growth and grief. So many tears.
